Why did Will Smith attack his colleague Chris Rock?

Actor and comedian Will Smith, loved by millions for his appearance in Fresh Prince of LA and many movies, is said to have been banned from the Oscars gala and other Academy events for 10 years. The backstory to that decision is that during the latest Oscars gala, Mr. Smith went on the stage and smacked his colleague Chris Rock because Mr. Rock said a joke about Mr. Smiths Wife. Videos of the couple show Mrs Smith abusing her husband, and their son claim that she destroyed their family. It seems that Mrs Smith is a perpetrator of domestic violence (relational aggressiveness). 4 sidor.

Actor and comedian Will Smith, loved by millions for his appearance in Fresh Prince of LA and many movies, is said to have been banned from the Oscars gala and other Academy events for 10 years (BBC).

The backstory to that decision is that during the latest Oscars gala, Mr. Smith went on the stage and smacked his colleague Chris Rock, another very famous comedian who was hosting the event, in the face. This is of course an unaccepted act of violence (description), but why did it happen (possible explanation)?

Before they started to hand out the awards, Mr. Rock, in his role as the host, cracked some jokes, e.g., he was doing his job. And comedians tend to roast other famous people. Before the world became dominated by democracy, roasting, or slander, was a crime.
“When John Peter Zenger was brought to trial on criminal libel charges for criticizing the New York colonial governor, the judge instructed the jury to ignore whether the statements in the newspaper were true or not. But the jury ignored the judge, and acquitted Zenger. It was an early case in America where truth began to be considered a viable defense to libel. (Image of the trial via Wall Street in History by Martha J. Lamb, 1883, public domain)” (THE FIRST AMENDMENT ENCYCLOPEDIA).
Cracking jokes about other people in not a crime any more, it's just part of modern societies. In this case, Mr. Rock made a joke about Mr. Smith's wife, calling her a future actor for GI Jane 2.
“Jada, can’t wait for G.I. Jane 2.” (Shennan, 2022).
Now, in the world of fame, roasting seems to be a commonality, a way to make the audience sustain awareness of your existence as an actor.

Jada Pinkett Smith is also an actress, but far as acknowledged as her husband. She's probably more recognized because of her marriage with Mr Smith. So, because her husband was nominated for an Oscar, she got the chance to join him and be part of the venue.
“The actress could be seen rolling her eyes after the joke, and husband Smith could be seen laughing before he took to the stage”.
Here's the interesting part. When Mr. Rock told the joke, Mr. Smith's emotional-intuitive reaction was to laugh. And everyone could see that he thought the joke was really funny. And based on the audience reaction, they thought it was funny too. Ergo. Chris Rock was  very guy. Cased closed?

Mrs. Smith's emotional-intuitive reaction, on the other hand, was the opposite - very negative.

Humans' are mammals and our brain and mind is said to have a three part structure: the reptile, the mammal brain and mind, and the neocortex.
“Human brains are primate brain, and human cognition is primate cognition. Much of our brain’s anatomy, and indeed, much of the way we think, are the way they are because we are primates. It follows that if we want to understand human thinking and the evolution of human thinking, we must start with primate brains and cognition” (s. 80).
The reptilian brain is most closely associated with body processing. Instinctive trauma responses, such as fight, flight, freeze, or startle responses, and crying for help are all examples of reptilian brain functions. The reptilian brain also controls the autonomic responses that we experience as body sensations and basic life-sustaining processes, like digestion, heart rate, body temperature, and respiration.

Emotions lend another dimension to our experience by letting us know of our likes and dislikes, which helps identify what is emotionally important or meaningful to us and adds emotional richness to our lives and relationships

The right hemisphere is associated with creativity and intuition. It processes information in a more symbolic, implicit, and nonlinear fashion” (Johnson, 2021).
So whereas Mr. Smith's first reaction was of comfort and happiness, Mrs. Smith's reaction was the opposite. Why wasn't Mrs. Smith amused by the situation? I mean, she had accepted an invitation to accompany her [famous] husband who was nominated for an award. That means dressing up and exposing the best of you to the global media. And she got to be in the front row. Few people have this opportunity.

Since this tragic event, numerous theories are circulating. One is that the whole thing is fake; Mr. Smith didn't even hit Mr Rock.

Another, which seems to be more relevant, is the claim that Ms. Smith has abused Mr Smith's during their long marriage - 25 years. Maybe they also spent some years together prior to that.

Several videos are showing up demonstrating a very abusive behavior from Mrs. Smith's on Mr Smith's. In the first video, Mrs. Smith is filming Mr. Smith while giving leading questions of some sort. Mr. Smith is looking really uncomfortable (like an abused dog if you ask me), asking her to stop filming, because social media is his bread-and-butter so to speak, but Mrs. Smith refuses to. Her face i stone cold.
“I would say don't start filming me without asking me ... my social media presence is my bread and butter okay. So you can't just use me for social media and ...”
Mr. Smith looks really oppressed, whereas Mrs. Smith just keeps asking him these leading questions. As the video continues, its leading to another backstory - a program where Mrs. Smith, his wife and daughter, and what probably is his mother, is sitting around a table. Mr Smith is telling a story about when he prepared to use his money for a surprise gift to his wife. Mr. Smith put in a lot of work, which just demonstrates that he is a really carrying person. Mrs Smith's response was a bit awkward: that is was the ridiculous display of his ego (New Video Resurfaced Of Jada Humiliating Will Smith).

At the age of 15, their son wanted to get away from his mother, but she just couldn't understand why: "You Destroyed Our Family" Jaden Smith CONFRONTS Jada Pinkett Smith After The OscarsAlso:
“Actress Jada Pinkett Smith was involved in an extra-marital relationship with rapper August Alsina for four and a half years during her marriage to Will Smith (Kent, 2021).
Women's part of Domestic violence is often neglected by politicians and people working at as police officers, social service and in courts. But research show the following:

When men are seeing other women it's often considered wrong, especially if the man is married, has children, and the women are much younger. But in this case, when a middle-aged mother of three engage in an extramarital affair with a twenty-one year younger man for several years, no one seem to pay attention. Also, people who know the Smith's must know about Mrs. Smiths's abuse of her husband. Her behavior is referred to as relational aggressiveness, a typically female behavior.
