In May this year, Christine Baumgartner filed for divorce from her husband Kevin Costner. Their relationship lasted 18 years, and for thirteen of these years, they were married. Together they have three children, adding to Mr Costner's previous four children. And they had signed a prenuptial agreement (PA) which would earn her 1.5 million dollars, and 127,000 dollars in child support every month. Not bad!

Because the couple had been together for son long, have three kids together, and because there was a prenuptial agreement, its rational to assume that the separation would peaceful and that they could move with there separate lives, and cooperate for the benefits of their kids.
But divorce seems to be an event where some women tend to raise conflicts to gain control over the children and money from their former husbands.

Relational aggression is a typical female phenomenon (Hyde, 2005) and is inherited from the mother.
That is of course very tragic, because of the father-effect on children's emotional and social adjustment and cognitive development (Macrae, 2021; Rollè et al. 2019; Sethna et al. 2017; Österberg, 2004).
Little is know about what happened with the kids, but Ms. Baumgartner challenged the PA, and demanded more money on the argument she had been used to a the life-style of Mr. Costner.
In many ways this case is similar to the divorce between Johnny depp and Amber Heard, where Ms Heard accused Mr Depp of causing him PTSD. After an evaluation from forensic psychologist Dr. Shannon Curry, Ms Heard was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. She was also the perpetrator of domestic violence (Österberg, 2022).
Ms. Baumgartner has not yet accused Mr. Costner of any such thing, but she has suggested that he was involved in extra-marital affairs.
But greed doesn't pay off. After challenging the prenuptial agreement, the monthly child-support was reduced to 67,000 dollars. Still not bad, but probably disappointing for Ms. Baumgartner.

"Maternal borderline personality disorder (BPD) symptoms are associated with poorer parenting" (Zalewski et al. 2014).
Addition: Ruffalo (2024).
