AI has become a hype. Most people I meet mention AI. But the key aspect: do people know what AI is, and is it really AI we are looking for?
Two years ago, I wrote a blog-article called What is the future of AI? – The case for a definition and an intentional prediction. There I claimed:
- there's no intentional prospect (target)
- People in general don't seem to understand what AI is.
AI is an abbreviation for Artificial Intelligence. And as the name suggests, for at least the past 100 years there has been an ambition to use computers to mimic what the brain does - the mind.
But here's one catch. Even though neuropsychologists like my self have a decent understanding about the interplay between motivation, emotions, and cognitions, at the same time, there's no full understanding of how the mind works. One such example is consciousness. At least one key question remains to be answered: the “Hard Problem” of consciousness—asks how objective, physical neurons generate subjective, internal experiences.
Another aspect is the mind itself. As far as I understand, neuropsychologists do not focus on intelligence, but on rational thinking forward in time. That is, how the mental conglomerate called the executive functions operate in detail.
Ergo. There's still a need for an intentional prospect, as well as general understanding about how the mind works. And maybe AI should be replaced with Artificial Rational thinking forward in time (ARTFiT)?
